We're committed to enhancing the learning experience for children and communities by championing K-12 and STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Math] educational programs. Our giving efforts include financial donations, in-kind donations, volunteering and our Associate Matching Program.
In support of K-12 STEM educational programming, U.S. Cellular® is proud to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and JASON Learning.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America is an organization that provides STEM programming throughout our markets and prepares students to make a positive impact in their schools, communities and the world at large. We are pleased to invest our time, talent and financial contributions into supporting the communities we serve.
JASON Learning, named for a mythical Greek adventurer who explored the ancient world, provides award-winning curriculum and learning experiences using real-world situations. Students are challenged to create a "Storm Sanctuary," a connected space for communities facing natural disasters. This "mission" is available free to download for anyone interested in using it. Educational opportunities like this significantly improve student outcomes, academic achievement, and attitudes toward STEM careers.
Through our Associate Matching Program, we match associates' charitable donations to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500 per year, up to the company's annual cap of $250,000. Our associates invest in their communities and so does U.S. Cellular.
The passion and energy of our associates are displayed daily as we volunteer at local nonprofits in our communities. During 2017, our associates volunteered 36,416 hours with nonprofit organizations and community groups across our footprint.
Since 2009, we have invested more than $13.2 million in supporting local elementary and secondary-school programming to provide a better learning experience for students.
