  1. 1) What is Lifeline/Link-Up?

    The Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) Federal Universal Service Fund includes the Low Income program, which provides discounts on monthly telephone service to qualifying customers. U.S. Cellular participates in the Lifeline program by offering special price plans and discounts exclusively for qualifying low income individuals. Forresidents of federally recognized Tribal lands. U.S. Cellular also participates in the Link Up programs. The Link Up program provides discounts for customary fees related to the initiation of new service.

  2. 2) How do I sign up for a Lifeline calling plan and/or receive Lifeline discounts?

    Qualifications for participation in the Low Income Program vary by state. To qualify, you must live in one of the states where Low Income calling programs are offered and meet the requirements to receive Lifeline discounts. View Qualifications to see if you qualify.   3. 3) I am currently a U.S. Cellular customer. Can I switch to a Lifeline calling plan?

    You must qualify to sign up for a Lifeline calling plan and/or receive Lifeline discounts. Contact 1-800-447-1339 for more information about the Lifeline and Link-Up programs.Learn more

  4. 4) What steps do I take to renew my contract?

    You must re-certify each year that you are still eligible for the Lifeline program. At the end of the 2-year contract term, you may renew a Lifeline plan if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined by each state.

  5. 5) Can I get insurance on my phone?

  6. 6) How do I cancel my Lifeline service early?

    You must cancel your Lifeline plan and/or remove Lifeline discounts before the end of the contract term if you are no longer eligible to receive discounts. If your eligibility expires, you may cancel the service and return the equipment. If the equipment is not returned, you will be subject to an early termination fee.
