U.S. CELLULAR IMPLEMENTS WIRELESS PRIORITY SERVICE (WPS)

CHICAGO (May 12, 2015) – U.S. Cellular today announced that it has implemented and is operating Wireless Priority Service (WPS) in its markets. WPS provides priority on wireless calls for government officials and emergency personnel when there is heavy network traffic due to an emergency response event or a high level of activity at one time. WPS greatly increases the probability of a call being completed during an emergency.

WPS supports federal, state, local, tribal and territorial governments along with other authorized national security and emergency preparedness users. Using WPS, these users can avoid voice network congestion, while supporting critical continuity of government and emergency services, and performing critical leadership and command and control functions.

"At U.S. Cellular, we know that emergency responders and federal agencies put themselves in danger to help the public, so we want to support them in any way we can," said John Gockley, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs at U.S. Cellular. "By providing this priority service on our network, responders can quickly connect to additional resources to help in an emergency."

Qualification and acceptance into the WPS program is managed through the Office of Emergency Communications, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). To take advantage of WPS on the U.S. Cellular network, authorized emergency service personnel can apply online at www.dhs.gov/wps. Once the application is approved, users simply dial *272 before dialing the 10-digit phone number and the call will be automatically placed in high-priority status. There is a $.75 per minute charge that will appear on the customer's bill.

WPS is intended to be used in an emergency or crisis situation when the wireless network is congested and the probability of completing a normal call is reduced. For more information about WPS, go to www.dhs.gov/wps.
