Mother Teresa Catholic Academy Named 2011 Champion in U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities Campaign

Wireless Carrier to Award a total of $1 Million to 18 Schools in Nationwide Contest

CRETE, Ill., Oct. 31, 2011 – U.S. Cellular associates surprised the faculty and students of Mother Teresa Catholic Academy Friday with news that they are the 15th winner in the wireless carrier's 2011 Calling All Communities campaign. The school will receive $50,000, bringing the total to $350,000 that U.S. Cellular has awarded to Illinois schools since the campaign began three years ago.

Mother Teresa Catholic Academy is among 18 winners in the wireless carrier's nationwide $1 million contest this year. Two of the other winners are also from Chicagoland: Woodland Elementary School in Joliet and Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School in Orland Hills. The remaining champions will continue to be announced throughout October and November. All winning schools are planning special Calling All Communities events to celebrate their victories.

"The principal's excitement when we surprised her with the news that Mother Teresa was one of our champions was priceless," said Chris Rathsack, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Chicagoland. "We know the $50,000 will be used to enhance the students' education in some way and that's why this campaign is so rewarding."

The Calling All Communities campaign continues to grow with more than 1.5 million votes being cast this year for 2,700 schools nationwide. A total of 17 schools will receive $50,000 each, and the school with the most votes will earn the top prize of $150,000.

"We have learned that a small number of people who work hard together can truly make a difference in the lives of children," said Sandra Robertson, principal of Mother Teresa Catholic Academy. "This gift from U.S. Cellular will help us invest in technology and prepare our students for successful futures."

Illinois produced two other Calling All Communities champions last year: Nettelhorst Elementary School in Chicago and St. Liborius School in Steger each won $100,000. Winnings can be used any way the school sees fit to enhance students' learning experience.
