HOBBTON MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMED A 2011 CHAMPION IN U.S. CELLULAR'S CALLING ALL COMMUNITIES CAMPAIGN
NEWTON GROVE, N.C., Oct. 21, 2011 –U.S. Cellular associates stopped by Hobbton Middle School yesterday with a surprise announcement that the school has been named a 2011 Champion in U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities campaign, which comes with a $50,000 prize.
Hobbton Middle School was among five North Carolina winners announced today in the wireless carrier's nationwide $1 million contest. Other winning schools will continue to be revealed throughout October and November. The school is planning a special Calling All Communities event to celebrate their victory.
"It was great to be able to share this news with the staff at Hobbton Middle School. They ran a really strong campaign in last year's contest as well, so it makes this news even more special for the school," said Kimberly Sebastian, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in eastern North Carolina. "We know that their winnings will help make a difference for their students and staff, which is why U.S. Cellular continues its commitment to education. It's one of the reasons we have the happiest customers in wireless."
This is the third year that U.S. Cellular has awarded $1 million to schools through Calling All Communities. The campaign continues to grow with more than 1.5 million votes being cast this year for 2,700 schools nationwide. U.S. Cellular associates also visited four schools in Wayne County yesterday to tell them they are 2011 Calling All Communities champions as well: Fremont Stars Elementary School, North Drive Elementary School, Tommy's Road Elementary School and Wayne Christian School. To date, U.S. Cellular has awarded more than $650,000 to North Carolina schools through this campaign.
"What a great opportunity for our school," said Kevin Hunter, principal of Hobbton Middle School. "This win is a true demonstration of teamwork between the school, our students and the community. U.S. Cellular is a great community partner and a valued advocate for education in eastern North Carolina."
