School Brings Home $50,000 in Wireless Carrier's $1 Million Nationwide Contest

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2011) – Christ Covenant School wrapped up this week with a school-wide assembly for students, faculty and members of the community after winning $50,000 in U.S. Cellular's $1 million Calling All Communities campaign.

Christ Covenant School is among 17 schools across the country and seven in North Carolina that won $50,000 in the 2011 Calling All Communities campaign. Seymour Primary School in Seymour, Tenn., brought home the grand prize of $150,000 for garnering the most votes. Schools can choose how to use the money to enhance students' learning experience. Schools officials plan to form a committee comprised of teachers, administrators and parents to generate ideas and decide how to best to spend the money.

"Christ Covenant proved that you can win big even if you're a small school," said Jeremy Taylor, agent manager for U.S. Cellular in eastern North Carolina. "U.S. Cellular is proud to continue our commitment to education, which is one of the reasons we have the happiest customers in wireless."

This is the third year that U.S. Cellular has awarded $1 million to schools through Calling All Communities. The campaign grew significantly this year, with more than 1.5 million votes being cast for 2,700 schools nationwide. Since the program began in 2009, eastern North Carolina schools have won more than $750,000 through the campaign.

"While the $50,000 will make a great impact on our students, the experience of bringing our community together is priceless," said Ms. Brenda Brown, head of Christ Covenant School. "We have been able to show not only our students, but ourselves that we can accomplish anything together. We have all learned a valuable life lesson."
