U.S. Cellular Movies in the Park Begins July 10 at Garfield Park

ASHLAND, Ore., March 26, 2009 – Warm summer nights at Garfield Park will come alive in July and August with a family-friendly series of movies sponsored by U.S. Cellular. The movies start at dusk and various pre-show activities begin at 6:30 every other Friday evening between July 10 and August 21.

"Families are looking for ways to stretch their dollars just a little bit further and these four free movie nights can certainly help," said Don Robertson, parks and recreation director, City of Ashland. "U.S. Cellular has fantastic programming in other cities across the state and we wanted to bring that same experience here to Ashland."

The free movies are open to all ages and families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, along with food and drink (alcohol is not permitted) and enjoy a fun summer evening at the movies.

U.S. Cellular supports similar movie nights in four cities across the Northwest. Six years ago, the company launched its first movie series in the region with Movies in the Park in Medford. Movies in the Park in Pendleton, Ore. and Movies on the River in Kennewick, Wash. followed two years later. All three movie series return this summer as well as the launch of a new series in Roseburg.

"U.S. Cellular Movies in the Park delivers a free, family-friendly evening and we can't wait to start the show," said Heather Owens, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Oregon. Medford Movies in the Park will launch its sixth-season beginning on June 19 with a special Medford Cruise movie night. The series then begins eight weekly showings on Saturday nights (except July 4) beginning June 20 through August 15 at Bear Creek Amphitheater.
