U.S. Cellular Associates Helped Students Plant Trees and Present $17,000 grant

MADISON, Wis., April 20, 2009 – In celebration of Earth Day, a group of U.S. Cellular associates and students from the East Madison Community Center partnered up to clean the grounds and plant some trees for the organization. U.S. Cellular also presented the East Madison Community Center with a $17,000 grant to support its Positive Options Program, which promotes health and fitness and encourages students to stay away from drugs.

This week hundreds of U.S. Cellular associates nationwide are volunteering with nonprofit organizations and schools on projects to enhance the environment. "This is a great way to show our students that it's fun and rewarding to take care of our community," said Regina Lloren, assistant director of the East Madison Community Center. "We've wanted to get this done for some time and we appreciate the help from U.S. Cellular."

"I'm proud of the students for pitching in because every tree we plant makes Madison a little greener," said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. "Together we're turning Madison into a model city for environmental initiatives."

The volunteers from U.S. Cellular are part of the company's financial and marketing teams in Madison and Waukesha.

"We love to lend a hand where we can in our communities," said John Heimsch, director of marketing for U.S. Cellular. "We can do so much more when we all come together."

Last year U.S. Cellular donated more than $4 million to the United Way and non-profits serving its communities, and associates volunteered almost 10,000 hours. The company donated more than $370,000 to non-profit organizations in Wisconsin.
