When software updates are available for your Windows Phone, you will be notified on the device that a software update is available.
To manually check if an update is available you can click on Start, flick left to the App list, and then tap Settings > Phone update.
Updates are downloaded by plugging your phone into a PC or MAC through the USB cable. You will need Zune software or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac downloaded on your PC or MAC.
