BlackBerry® Tethering Set-up
You can use your smartphone as a modem to access the Internet from your PC. To take advantage of this tethering feature, you must have an APPROVED DATA PLAN associated with your account.

To proceed with setting up your smartphone as a tethered modem on a PC, please follow the steps outlined below. The instructions provided apply to the following BlackBerry smartphone models:

Step 1: Install BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0 or later on your Computer
One BlackBerry smartphone can be used as a modem at a single time. If the BlackBerry smartphone is associated with a BlackBerry®Enterprise Server, contact your administrator to make sure that the appropriate IT policy is turned on to use this feature.
Step 2: Set up your mobile Internet settings
Before a BlackBerry smartphone can be used as a modem, you must set up your mobile Internet settings. Select or create a profile that contains the information required by your wireless service provider to permit the Internet connection. Some profiles have been provided, but you can also create a new profile by completing the following steps:
- Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
- Launch the BlackBerry ® Desktop Software 6.0 and click Tools > Mobile Internet settings.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the profile for your wireless service provider in the Profile drop-down list. In the Profiles Settings section, type any required information that is not already included in the profile. For more information, contact your wireless service provider.
- Click Add custom profile if your wireless service provider does not appear in the Profile drop-down list. Type a name for the profile. Contact your wireless service provider to determine the information that is required for the Profiles Settings section. Required information can vary for each wireless service provider.
- Click the profile for your wireless service provider in the Profile drop-down list. In the Profiles Settings section, type any required information that is not already included in the profile. For more information, contact your wireless service provider.
- Click OK.
Step 3: Connect to the Internet using your BlackBerry smartphone as a modem
To perform this task, you must first set up your mobile Internet settings to create a connection profile. Depending on your wireless service plan, extra fees might apply.
- Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Tools > Start Mobile Internet.
- Click Connect.
To end the connection, click your Internet connection status. If the BlackBerry Desktop Software is already closed, you can also end the connection by clicking the Dial-Up icon in the notification area of the Windows ® taskbar.
