U.S. Cellular Announces Significant Investment in 4G LTE Network, Retail Stores and Communities in West Virginia for 2013
Morgantown, W. Va. (Feb. 18, 2014) – U.S. Cellular upgraded the wireless experience for its West Virginia customers in 2013 by investing $9.8 million in 4G LTE network enhancements across the state. Currently, nearly 90 percent of U.S. Cellular customers have access to 4G LTE speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection. The company also invested $4.4 million in upgrades to its existing high-speed network in West Virginia.
U.S. Cellular is dedicated to the local communities it serves, so in addition to network enhancements, U.S. Cellular invested $828,000 in West Virginia to upgrade its in-store experience with a high-engagement design that makes shopping an easy and enjoyable experience. Updates include an expanded device discovery zone, a connected devices engagement counter and a lounge. In 2013, the company built or renovated six of these hands-on, experiential store locations throughout the state, including in Morgantown, Martinsburg, Mount Hope and Bruceton Mills.
"These investments in our local communities allow us to provide the best wireless experience for our customers every time they use their phone or visit their local store," said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in the Mid-South. "Many people look at their smartphone as the one device they can't be without, and we want our customers to know that they are doing business with a wireless company that cares about them and their community."
U.S. Cellular is dedicated to supporting education and the pressing needs of schools, and through the Calling All Communities and Calling All Teachers campaigns, the company donated $1 million to schools across the country. In West Virginia, Rosedale Elementary School in Oak Hill was a 2013 Calling All Communities champion and received $25,000 to enhance the learning experience for its students. In addition, 48 teachers received a total of $28,930 in funding from U.S. Cellular for their classroom projects they posted on DonorsChoose.org through the company's Calling All Teachers campaign.
