U.S. Cellular Announces Significant Investment in 4G LTE Network, Retail Stores and Communities in North Carolina for 2013
Greenville, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2014) – U.S. Cellular upgraded the wireless experience for its North Carolina customers in 2013 by investing $2 million in 4G LTE network enhancements across the state. Currently, nearly 90 percent of U.S. Cellular customers have access to 4G LTE speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection. The company also invested $1.4 million in upgrades to its existing high-speed network in North Carolina.
U.S. Cellular is dedicated to the local communities it serves, so in addition to network enhancements, U.S. Cellular invested $1.1 million in North Carolina to upgrade its in-store experience with a high-engagement design that makes shopping an easy and enjoyable experience. Updates include an expanded device discovery zone, a connected devices engagement counter and a lounge. In 2013, the company built or renovated 11 of these hands-on, experiential store locations throughout the state, including in Greenville, Washington and Winterville.

U.S. Cellular is dedicated to supporting education and the pressing needs of schools through the Calling All Communities campaign in which the company donates $500,000 to schools across the country. In North Carolina, Williston Middle School of Math, Science and Technology and Sunset Park Elementary School in Wilmington; W Jesse Gurganus Elementary School in Havelock; and White Oak Elementary School in Edenton were 2013 Calling All Communities champions and each received $25,000 to enhance the learning experience for its students.
