U.S. Cellular Announces Significant Investment in 4G LTE Network, Retail Stores and Communities in Illinois for 2013

Company invests $23.7 million overall across the state

Rockford, Ill. (March 26, 2014) – U.S. Cellular upgraded the wireless experience for its Illinois customers in 2013 by investing $18.8 million in 4G LTE network enhancements across the state. Currently, nearly 90 percent of U.S. Cellular customers have access to 4G LTE speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection. The company also invested $4.5 million in upgrades to its existing high-speed network in Illinois.

In addition to network enhancements, U.S. Cellular invested $403,000 in Illinois to upgrade its in-store experience with a high-engagement design that makes shopping an easy and enjoyable experience. Updates include an expanded device discovery zone, a connected devices engagement counter and a lounge. In 2013, the company built or renovated two of these hands-on, experiential store locations in Peoria and Rochelle.

"These investments in our local communities allow us to provide the best wireless experience for our customers every time they use their phone or visit their local store," said Laurie Poellinger, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Northern Illinois. "Many people look at their smartphone as the one device they can’t be without, and we want our customers to know that they are doing business with a wireless company that cares about them and their community."

U.S. Cellular is dedicated to supporting education and the pressing needs of schools through the Calling All Communities campaign in which the company donates $500,000 to schools across the country. In Illinois, Centennial Elementary School in Polo was a 2013 Calling All Communities champion and received $25,000 to enhance the learning experience for its students.
