HOBBTON MIDDLE SCHOOL CELEBRATES WIN AS U.S. CELLULAR CALLING ALL COMMUNITIES CHAMPION

School Brings Home $50,000 in Wireless Carrier's $1 Million Nationwide Contest

NEWTON GROVE, N.C. (Nov. 8, 2011) – Kevin Hunter, principal of Hobbton Middle School, was the target of good natured fun for his students on Tuesday morning. Hunter allowed them to throw pies at him as part of the school's celebration for being a 2011 Champion in U.S. Cellular's $1 million Calling All Communities campaign. The school celebrated this exciting $50,000 win with an energetic pep rally for students, faculty,
U.S. Cellular associates and members of the community.

Hobbton Middle School is among 17 schools across the country and seven in North Carolina that won $50,000 in the Calling All Communities campaign. Seymour Primary School in Seymour, Tenn., brought home the grand prize of $150,000 for garnering the most votes. Schools can choose how to use the money to enhance students' learning experience.

Hobbton Middle School will use the $50,000 to update technology in their classrooms.

"It was a thrill to celebrate with the school and see the genuine excitement in the students and staff," said Jeremy Taylor, agent manager for

This is the third year that U.S. Cellular has awarded $1 million to schools through Calling All Communities. The campaign grew significantly this year, with more than 1.5 million votes being cast for 2,700 schools nationwide. Since the program began in 2009, eastern North Carolina schools have won more than $750,000 through the campaign.

"This campaign has been a great experience for Hobbton Middle School and our entire community," said Hunter. "The celebration today is the culmination of hard work and dedication of our staff, parents, and community members that joined together to support our school."
