CAPSHAW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES WIN AS U.S. CELLULAR CALLING ALL COMMUNITIES CHAMPION

School Brings Home $50,000 in Wireless Carrier's $1 Million Nationwide Contest

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 15, 2011) – Capshaw Elementary School celebrated its victory as a 2011 Champion in U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities campaign on Nov. 15 with an inspirational pep rally that fired up the school and community.

In honor of the school recently winning $50,000 through U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities campaign, the festive celebration featured an all-school assembly. As students filed into the gym, the noise level grew as they screamed, cheered and clapped U.S. Cellular thunder sticks high in the air. Cellby, the U.S. Cellular mascot, also joined the fun as students chanted "Go Cougars!"

A feeling of victory was in the air as the gym walls were covered in banners exclaiming, "50,000 dollars makes us holler!" and "$50,000 'calls' for a celebration!" The faculty members donned CapshawElementary School t-shirts that read "50,000 Thank Yous," and students showed off their school spirit in Capshaw Cougars t-shirts.

Chris Stokes, area sales manager for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee, attended the celebration and expressed his delight in being a part of such an exciting event.

"The excitement in this gym is incredible. We're thrilled to present this $50,000 prize to Capshaw Elementary School and to celebrate this achievement with the faculty, students and community members who worked so hard to make it happen," said Stokes. "We award this money to help enhance the educational experience for students. U.S. Cellular's commitment to education is one of the reasons we have the happiest customers in wireless."

The pep rally concluded with some cool prizes being handed out by PTO president Leta Watson. One lucky class won the chance to play a round of putt-putt with Capshaw Elementary principal Dr. Kim Wright. And, first grade student Braylon Schetchen won a tablet device.

This year, Tennessee boasts a total of three Calling All Communities champions. In addition to Capshaw Elementary, Pickett County K-8 School in Byrdstown and Seymour Primary School in Seymour are among 18 winners in the wireless carrier's nationwide $1 million contest.

This is the third year that U.S. Cellular has awarded $1 million to schools through Calling All Communities. The campaign grew significantly this year, with more than 1.5 million votes being cast for 2,700 schools nationwide. Since the program began in 2009, Tennessee schools have won $650,000 through the campaign.

Through this year's Calling All Communities contest, a total of 17 schools received $50,000 each, and the school with the most votes earned the top prize of $150,000. The grand prize winner was Seymour Primary School. Winnings can be used any way the school sees fit to enhance students' learning experience.

"It's not every day that someone hands you a check for $50,000 and doesn't tell you how to spend it," said Dr. Wright. "We're so thankful to U.S. Cellular for awarding this money with no strings attached. First, we plan to upgrade our computer lab, which every student will use and benefit from."

As the celebration wrapped up and students returned to class, many stopped to take photos with Cellby, and U.S. Cellular associates printed the photos for them on-site. They all continued to applaud and celebrate their victory, jumping and shouting as they left the gym.
